In a recent news that might make a lot of Indian gamers and budding game developers happy, Rockstar Games, the same people behind GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, ended up buying an Indian studio that goes by the name of Dhruva Interactive.
Dhruva Interactive is India’s first and biggest gaming studio that was founded all the way back in 1997 by Rajesh Rao. They have worked on games such as Payday 2 and Overkill’s Walking Dead.
“Dhruva Interactive has been a beacon of Indian game development for decades and we are excited to bring them into the Rockstar family,” said Daniel Smith, studio manager of Rockstar India. “The addition of the Dhruva team to the existing talent at Rockstar India will expand the studio’s capabilities and reinforces our belief in and commitment to the local development community.”
The sale of the Indian studio to Rockstar Games happened mostly due to the fact that the former parent company of Dhruva Interactive, Starbreeze, is currently going through financial troubles. It’s sale of Dhruva interactive for $7.9 million is expected to keep Starbreeze afloat and not have them shut down in the near future.
As for Dhruva Interactive, they’re going to work on their existing client projects along with any projects that Rockstar Games might have coming in the future. Dhruva interactive has over 300 employees today; along with their past work, they make for a formidable force in the Indian gaming industry.
